My son’s birthday party this year is all things Xbox. So, of course, we have to have mini chocolate controllers to put on top of the chocolate covered Oreos. I special ordered a silicone mold of an Xbox controller online because there is no way I could do them by hand. These were easy to do and only took about an hour to complete.
To make your own candy you need:
- Silicone or plastic candy mold
- Candy melts or chocolate wafers
- Squeeze bottle
- Luster dust
- Food safe brush
- CK candy writers for detailing
First thing I did was melt Wilton Candy Melts in these neat candy squeeze bottles I found at Hobby Lobby.
Then I squeezed the candy into the silicone mold and put it in the freezer to set for 5 minutes. All you do is push down on the center of the mold and the candy pops right out.
Then I dusted black luster dust on top of the candy controllers to give them some shimmer. Make sure you use a food safe brush to apply the luster dust.
I purchased these CK candy writers online at Country Kitchen Sweetart to make the buttons on the controller. I used a toothpick to remove any excess candy that squeezed out on the controller.
And there you have it! Mini candy Xbox controllers. Now you know how to make your own candy for cupcake toppers, candy favors or whatever else you want to embellish!
I’ll post how to do chocolate covered Oreos with embellishments next week.
