Sugar Cookie Recipe

It took me a long time to get this recipe right. It is by far the best sugar cookie I have ever had (not biased at all lol). It is easy to roll out and cut and the cookies only spread a little bit keeping their shape when they cook. You can put sprinkles on them before cooking or use icing like I typically do.


  • 2 sticks Salted Butter
  • 1 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 3/4 cups All Purpose Flour – reserve 1/4 cup for dusting
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract


Cream the butter and sugar together in a mixer using the paddle attachment. Crack the egg in a separate bowl and mix in the vanilla. Mix the egg mix in until incorporated. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour and baking powder. Add the flour mix little by little mixing thoroughly between each addition. Let the dough stand for a few minutes to firm up a little before rolling. Roll out the dough on parchment paper with a rolling-pin about 1/4 inch thick. If the dough sticks to the rolling pin, dust the pin with flour. Dip your cookie cutter in flour each time you cut a cookie. Cut and bake at 400 degrees for 7-8 minutes on two large non-stick baking sheets. Do not walk away from your oven while baking these cookies!!!! When the edges on the bottom start to brown slightly, pull them from the oven. You will have to learn how long they cook in your oven but it only took 7 in mine. This recipe makes 2 dozen cookies.
