On Tuesday, President Barack Obama signed the landmark bill known as the 21st Century Cures Act. This represents a substantial step forward for everyone who wants to see safer and more effective medicines developed faster and more efficiently. The bill will increase funding of the National Institutes of Health including funding for research programs that will help better our understanding of autism. Funding that will help the development of personalized and precision medicines that could benefit people with autism. President Obama said, “We are bringing to reality the possibility of new breakthroughs to some of the greatest health challenges of our time.”
Although the act has been criticized by many on the hill and in healthcare, I am hopeful this act is a clear victory for patients and their families, including ours.
