Having a child with autism is hard. You never know what version of their personality you are going to get from day to day! If you are an autism parent you know what I’m talking about! My girl is pretty laid back for the most part. But, as she hits the pre-teen years, the attitude I remember giving my parents is coming back to haunt me. My Mama always said it would. What I’ve learned the past year with puberty on the horizon is I need more patience. More patience? As an autism Mom patience is my middle name. Now, I am going to need to do yoga and meditate daily as I navigate having a teenage girl with autism! Although she is mostly nonverbal, I know exactly how she feels. She makes sure of it. Thankfully, her therapists have been successful in teaching her how to communicate her emotions! You can see in the picture, how she felt in therapy last week. LOL She may be 90 pounds soaking wet but she has 200 pounds of attitude! Bless her heart! I may never know what version of her personality I'll get from day to day, but I do know that I need to continue to be patient, understanding, and empathetic as she navigates this new stage in her life. We are learning together!
